4.         Getting Started with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop Camera RAW

Course Description:

By now most photographers know the advantages of RAW files over JPG’s. Raw files supply the full image quality the camera can provide. Better yet, Raw images let you to make decisive decisions after the image is taken. Exposures can be adjusted after the fact, and various white balance settings can be tried after the picture is taken. You make these adjustments while seeing them previewed on your computer monitor.

This workshop will provide useful information about the Raw capabilities of Photoshop Camera Raw and Adobe Lightroom.

Topics that will be discussed and demonstrated:

  • recover blown-out highlights using the Recovery tool
  • determine proper white balance using presets
  • apply capture sharpening
  • apply sharpening through adjustable masks to avoid exaggerating digital noise
  • reduce noise that is associated with high ISO settings
  • correct for chromatic aberration
  • apply “Fill Light” to open up shadows
  • adjust color saturation without creating out-of-gamut colors using Vibrance adjustment
  • adjust hue, saturation, and lightness in the HSL mode
  • create black and white images
  • use new local adjustments to creatively dodge and burn

Because the adjustment capabilities of Camera Raw and Adobe Lightroom are the same, only the visual interface is different, this workshop is useful to both Camera Raw and Lightroom users.
